OLLI EVENTS
Saturday, June 11 at 5:30 in the OLLI Courtyard
Your OLLI Hospitality Committee presents a fun evening with this multi-cultural event. Imagine drinks, hors d’oeuvres, multi-entrée Chinese buffet, and dessert in the OLLI Courtyard and then listening to an amazing jazz concert in the comfort of Mackey Auditorium, all for only $13!
“Amazing jazz concert” is not an exaggeration. This fabulous foursome each has credentials as long as a dragon’s tail.
Let's introduce them:
Jim Szilagyi, piano, has played with jazz greats, Art Pepper & Sergio Mendez, and spent 3 years as Pat & Debbie Boone’s Music Director. For 2 years, he worked with world famous Hungarian jazz guitarist, Gabor Szabo. He also has been Music Director for several TV shows and has performed at 40+ jazz festivals, including the Playboy Jazz Festival.
Jotty Johnson, bass, has performed with Carmen McCrea, Chuck Mangioni, Kenny Burrell, Horace Silver and many more recording artists. He is a talented bass player and highly sought after throughout Southern California and frequently can be heard at all the best-known jazz venues, including Catalina Jazz Club, Steamers, the Ritz Carlton Hotels and the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
Bob Forte, drums, while studying at the Hartt College of Music, he played with Hartford Symphony Orchestra. As a young drummer, he played with jazz giants, Jimmy McGriff & Jimmy Heath. After moving to California, he toured and recorded with Barry Manilow, the Jimmy Dorsey Band, Dave Brubeck, the Count Basie Band, and many others.
Joe Lawton, saxophone, a man of more talents and accomplishments than can mentioned here; refer to the February 2011 Spotlight feature for some of these. They say you can judge someone by the company they keep, so Joe is a very talented musician indeed. He also is an OLLI member and is bringing these wonderful musicians for our listening pleasure.

THE SUMMER OLLI COOKING WORKSHOPS ARE FULL! DON’T SEND ANYMORE CHECKS!
We have had an overwhelming demand for the three cooking workshops this summer at the Jacaranda Senior Apartments. If you are interested in any of the sessions, please contact Celia in the office and place your name on a waiting list no later than June 15th (don’t send in a check at this time).
